College Applications Are a Battlefield

For parents with high school seniors, the start of the new year meant more than resolutions and champagne. The 2011 college application season is now over.

Since the common application was introduced, the number of college applications submitted every year has exploded. Over a quarter of students now submit applications to 7 or more different colleges. Filling out all those apps can be a painful process. (If your kids haven’t gone through it yet, check out this topic on the College Confidential where students are encouraged to vent).

The application season can be just as challenging for parents. High school seniors have a lot on their minds like homecoming, dating, and the final chance to get to the playoffs with their soccer team. Getting them take time to sit down and fill out a bunch of forms can be a constant battle.

Are you a survivor of the 2011 college application blitz? We’d love to hear your advice for parents of juniors who are gearing up to apply this year.
